Regarding language, even governmental organisations make professional blunders. In a case that went viral, Malaysia’s Ministry of Defence admits to having used Google Translate to produce an article for the English version of its website. The article contained embarrassing mistranslations regarding appropriate attire for men and women and the history of the Ministry. Such an incident gives the impression that the Malaysian government does not have a very good command of English and implies that Malaysia is not a very globalised country. Although Malaysia’s MINDEF is not a business, this is an example businesses can learn from as well as foreign investors thinking about doing business in Malaysia may be discouraged from doing so if they think that communicating with Malaysians in English will be difficult.

So when it comes to branding, remember that everything counts. While this can sound stressful as it means having to cover more bases, it also means that everything can be an opportunity to position your company better.
